At TMD, creativity is not separate from clarity—strong concepts require storytelling, spatial sensibility, and a bold visual language. At the intersection of architecture and CGI, Petr Kousal brings a distinct design philosophy that unites aesthetics with emotional narrative.

Meet Petr Kousal, Creative Director & Founding Partner at TMD, who leads the creative direction of the studio. With a background in architecture, a refined eye for composition, and a deep understanding of visual storytelling, Petr drives the aesthetic identity of our work—across both our architectural projects and high-end visualisation services.

He stands outdoors wearing a fitted black sweater, with one hand resting casually on a metal railing in the foreground. His expression is calm yet intent, reflecting his artistic sensibility and focus as a visual storyteller. The softly blurred background reveals curved architectural glazing, ambient lights and structural elements, reinforcing the creative and contemporary setting of his professional practice in Architecture & CGI.

From Student Projects to Global Recognition

Petr holds a Master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Development from VUT in Brno. Early on, he showed interest in the fusion of design and visual communication. He interned at Kuba & Pilař Architects, where he gained experience in competitions and conceptual design. Later, he joined the visualisation studio Atelier Brunecky in Brno, where he explored the full potential of CGI as a design tool.

This dual engagement—between concept development and final image-making—laid the foundation for his unique creative approach.

Back in university, I was always moving between two worlds—the architectural studio where we designed and competed, and the visualisation studio where we communicated those ideas. That balance felt natural to me. I never saw visualisation as separate from design—it was always part of the same process of shaping a story.

A Defining Step: From Brno to London

Petr’s international trajectory began with the Bakala Foundation’s Kaplický Internship, through which he joined Adjaye Associates in London. Over the next four years, he worked on globally recognised projects such as the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi.

This experience solidified his confidence as a designer working at the highest level of architectural ambition, while also deepening his understanding of spatial narrative and visual composition. In 2022, he co-founded TMD and returned to Central Europe with the ambition to bridge global design culture with his own architectural voice.

The experience at Adjaye Associates changed the way I think about architecture. I learned to approach every project not just as a spatial challenge, but as a cultural narrative. Working on the Abrahamic Family House gave me a deeper respect for how architecture can reflect belief, identity, and community—and how important it is to communicate those values with clarity.

Role at TMD – Creative Leadership in Architecture & CGI

At TMD, Petr’s role is to craft design direction and ensure visual excellence across all deliverables. Whether it’s a competition entry, a marketing visualisation, or a built project, he ensures that each image tells a story and each space resonates with clarity and depth.

His focus spans:

  • Architectural Concept Design – From initial spatial ideas to refined narratives in both 2D and 3D.

  • Visual Storytelling & CGI Direction – Leading image composition, light, mood, and atmosphere to bring unbuilt projects to life.

  • Creative Quality Control – Reviewing and shaping the studio’s output to ensure consistency, boldness, and emotional connection.

My responsibility at TMD is to define how a project feels. The composition of a visual, the rhythm of a design, the tone of the atmosphere—all of it contributes to the message we’re sending. Good design doesn’t shout. It communicates. And it’s my job to make sure that communication is intentional, consistent, and emotionally precise.

Shaping Projects Across Europe & Beyond

Petr has contributed to design and visualisation on projects ranging from private villas in Mallorca and Lake Como, to urban proposals in the Czech Republic, to cultural architecture in the Middle East. His work consistently reflects TMD’s commitment to high-quality design—both technically and conceptually.

Whether collaborating with clients on unbuilt designs or developing competition entries internally, Petr ensures that the narrative behind every project is communicated with strength and clarity.

Petr Kousal, Founding Partner at TMD, captured in front of a mirrored glass façade at London’s Design District in North Greenwich. He wears a minimalist black crew-neck sweater, tailored trousers, and black leather Chelsea boots—embodying a clean, architectural aesthetic. Standing with relaxed posture and hands by his sides, his calm expression and mirrored reflection evoke compositional balance and visual clarity. The scene subtly integrates urban cues such as a bicycle, bare-branched trees, and soft winter light—echoing TMD’s ethos of design rooted in context and understated sophistication.

Every location demands a different response. Designing for Mallorca is not the same as working on a public competition in Prague or a private villa on Lake Como. But the common thread is always clarity—understanding what needs to be said and choosing the right visual language to say it.
I’ve always believed that architecture is both intuitive and rational. You need space to feel something, and you need structure to make it real. What excites me most is that moment where an abstract idea suddenly finds its form—and you can see both the emotion and the logic at once.

Beyond Work – Balance Through Motion

Outside of work, Petr finds balance through sport—especially running, cycling, and strength training. These physical activities are more than hobbies; they are rituals for focus, reflection, and discipline.

Sport plays a huge role in keeping me balanced. Whether it’s running, cycling, or strength training, it’s often during those moments that I disconnect from the pressure of work—and reconnect with ideas. It clears my head and makes me sharper creatively. I think better when I move.

Looking Ahead – TMD’s Creative Growth

With Petr leading creative direction and Ondrej driving strategy and technical execution, TMD continues to evolve as a practice where architecture and CGI merge into one seamless, expressive language. The future of the studio lies in deepening this duality—building visionary spaces and communicating them through powerful, emotive storytelling.
